Terry Urban is one of our favorite DJs here at BSP. This is a transition he came out with a couple months ago that is brilliant. Check out more of his mixtapes at TerryUrban.net and follow him on twitter.

Lindstrom/Prins Thomas BBC Essential Mix

Posted by DJ Gay Boy On February - 23 - 2010

It’s cold in Norway. It’s cold. The nights are long. Really long. There’s lots of snow. There’s not much better to do than dance away those long, cold, snow-filled nights with all the beautiful blond Norwegian women. Enter Hans Peter Lindstrom and Prins Thomas. Heads of the Feedelity and Full Pup Record labels, respectively, Lindstrom and Prins are responsible for the sounds that have affectionately been dubbed “space-disco.” Here we have a 2007 mix recorded for Pete Tong’s legendary BBC Essential Mix series. In the thickest possible British accent, “This one is exceptional!”

The Loisaida Listen, Episode #1

Posted by Loisaida Sam On February - 18 - 2010

What’s up hermanitos? Loisaida Sam here, dropping my inaugural post on this latest iteration of Bulletproof Sombreros.

In our brainstorming sessions, one idea I came up with is a weekly music column entitled “The Loisaida Listen” where we here at Bulletproof Sombreros keep the world posted on the latest and greatest in music that we deem worthy. We will update you with weekly album releases, keep you posted on our favorite music of the past, as well as what we’re looking forward to on the horizon. With the Loisaida playlist in your tape deck, you can’t go wrong!

In this week’s Loisaida Listen, I want to focus on a band called Local Natives. I had heard some buzz around their name, but first became aware of them during CMJ of 2009 where they followed an energetic performance by Hockey at Mercury Lounge. I regret not sticking around for more than a couple of songs (one of many late nights during CMJ where I was just plain worn out / being soft), but really enjoyed what I did hear. They are an LA band whose debut album Gorilla Manor was released in the UK in 2009. The reason I am mentioning them now is that after signing to one of my favorite labels Frenchkiss Records (also boasting the likes of The Antlers, Passion Pit, etc.), Gorilla Manor was finally just released in the US this past Tuesday! Yahoo! Now we can all go pick up the vinyl!

In NYC? Look for Local Natives at The Bowery Ballroom on May 6th (tickets on sale tomorrow at noon!)
