Can I play in the WNBA?

Yahoo – The last time Marion Jones played competitive basketball was in 1997.  Now, 13 years, five stripped Olympic medals and one prison term later, the former track star will make a return to the sport.

Jones signed a one-year contract with the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock on Tuesday. In December she announced her intentions to play in the women’s professional basketball league, but assumed she’d have to play in Europe first as a tune-up. Shock head coach and general manager Nolan Richardson didn’t think so. He worked out Jones over the weekend and signed her to the rookie’s minimum, $35,000, today.

Am I really writing an article about WNBA?  I think I’m more in Shock then this Tulsa team. Don;’t get me wrong.  I don’t watch the WNBA but this article struck me.  I know the WNBA is horrible to watch but are they just giving up and letting anyone play? Marion Jones’ track record of prison and drug abuse is much more impressive than her record on the actual track that she used to run.  The WNBA is so bad that they are starting to recruit athletes that don’t even play basketball.  Last time I checked Jones is rapidly fast but I don’t believe I’ve seen her shoot a basketball.  This isn’t an episode of Spike TV’s Pros vs. Joes or Shaq Vs.  This is the equivalent if they were to get Jose Reyes to play for the New York Knicks.  I hear he’s got some free time on his hands now anyway.

I’ve always thought that I could dominate in the WNBA but this now confirms it.  If there are opening tryouts in my area I’m definitely in.  It must suck for these WNBA teams when their key players are out every once a month with cramps.  Yeah just give me a jersey, some shorts, a butch haircut, and some tampons and put me in coach.
